HERDATA: Tracking Climate Impacts on Displaced Women

This project is co-led by New Women Connectors, who are working alongside displaced women and partner organisations to strengthen feminist, inclusive approaches in humanitarian action, and Kente Threads, a feminist initiative that centres refugee women’s leadership in humanitarian action.

Together, they are working to refine HERDATA, a data tool co-designed with displaced and refugee women to track climate impacts on migrants, assess women’s participation in decision-making, and identify gaps in response systems.

A data tool co-designed with displaced and refugee women. The project works to strengthen and refine HERDATA so it can better:

Track the impacts of climate change on migrants and displaced communities
Assess women’s participation in decision-making processes
Identify gaps in humanitarian and climate responses
Generate evidence to support more inclusive and accountable action

By grounding data in lived experience, the project supports more responsive and equitable solutions.

Lived Expertise

Displaced women lead data collection through surveys, community dialogues, and advocacy, transforming lived realities into evidence that drives accountability.

Intersectional Analysis

Using HERDATA, the project tracks how overlapping injustices gender, migration status, poverty, and race intensify vulnerabilities such as climate- related gender-based violence and exclusion from aid, ensuring responses tackle root causes.

Resilience and power

Kente Threads challenges exclusionary climate policies and advocates for displaced women’s rights to safety, resources, and leadership in building climate resilience.
